Description: Images one through three show details of leaves of plants of same origin grown in a California greenhouse. The plant for sale is a well-established, greenhouse propagated, seed-grown individual shown in the last three images, 26" tall overall, planted in a mixture of fine conifer bark, sphagnum peat and pumice in a 6”/half gallon plastic pot. Please note that this is a well-developed specimen plant not a seedling. Zamia hamanni is a fairly recently described (2008) giant-leaf lowland rainforest cycad that is known from a trio of localities on the Caribbean coast of Bocas del Toro province, Panama. It is notable for its occurrence both immediately adjacent to the coast and seaside and is somewhat salt tolerant. Plant for sale is seed-grown from artificially propagated, selected material produced in Australia and has original locality data of grandparents attached. This species produces very beautiful, heavily grooved peach or bronze colored new leaves as they get older and is one of the most desirable and ornamental of all the Central American cycads. Easy to grow but needs warmth and water to thrive. Can be grown as a pot plant for a number of years but will ultimately get large. A fantastic plant for warm sunrooms with a shady corner of a subtropical garden. May be partially bare-rooted to reduce risk of damage to the plant during shipping, but pot will be included. All plants offered are greenhouse grown on benches in the San Francisco Bay Area, California.
